Chewy Sugar Cookies
This recipe has been in my family for as long as I can as I have a memory. I remember helping my mom make these as a small child in our little farmhouse kitchen in my tiny little apron. Everything about these cookies reminds me of home, and family, and togetherness, and Christmas, and all the feels. These are hands-down my favorite basic sugar cookie recipe. These aren’t that great for making shapes with because they do spread out quite a bit, but they are perfect for making into balls and the taste CANNOT be beat. If you want a great recipe for using cookie cutters with though check this one out, it’s equally as delicious! This recipe is just so near and dear to my heart and honestly so simple to make. It’s always a crowd please and there’s never any left if you take them to a party, so you might want to double the recipe. Here’s how you make them…
Ingredients:
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
1/2 cup Salted Butter
1 Egg
1 tsp Vanilla
1 pinch Salt
2 cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
Preparation notes:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream the first 3 ingredients together with an electric mixer.
Add remaining ingredients.
Roll into walnut-sized balls. Dip into granulated sugar.
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with the bottom of a glass (or just use the palm of your hand). Bake for 10 minutes.
Cool before serving. Enjoy!
